Review of Day One of the USFL Draft

Review of the USFL Draft from Day One

Day one of the USFL draft is finally over after nearly 5 hours when it was supposed to last 3 hours. Not a lot of big-name players in this draft because mostly they come from small colleges or they bounce a lot in the NFL. The first was the most important draft because this is the Quarterback round and the same as the 12th round too. Then it follows by 2nd thru 4th round are DE and Edge Rusher. The 5th thru 7th rounds belong to the Offensive Tackle position. The 8th thru 11th rounds belong to the cornerback and the final 12th round went back to the quarterback.

The 1st and 12th rounds are the quarterbacks selected. Michigan Panthers created a quarterback battle by drafting Shea Patterson in 1st round and later drafted Paxton Lynch in the  12 round. Other noticeable Quarterbacks such as Jordan Ta’amu who played in the XFL for St. Louis Battlehawks. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the league at the time. Clayton Thorson was drafted by the Eagles in 2019 and was cut before the regular season got started. Later he was picked up by the Cowboys and Giants. Now he was recently drafted by the Houston Gamblers. Kyle Lauletta was drafted by Pittsburgh Maulers who doesn’t have much NFL experience. He was drafted by the Giants in 2018 and later pick up by several teams over the years; Such as the Eagles,  Falcons, Browns, and Jaguars.

After the quarterback round, there are not many big names popping out of the board compare to the AAF (2019) and XFL (2020). Side note both leagues were shut down in the middle of their inaugural season.

Chris Orr has the most experience NFL but saw very little action with the Carolina Panthers in 2020. The New Jersey Generals drafted Inside Linebacker. Another player to take notice of is Tyler Catalina RT for the Tampa Bandits, Carlo Kemp DE for the Pittsburgh Maulers, Adonis Alexander CB for New Orleans Breakers, and Davin Bellamy for New Orleans Breakers.

  2. New Orleans Breakers
